District Bylaws

In accordance with its charter and the laws of the State of Vermont, the voters stipulate how Colchester Fire District No. 1 is to be governed by means of the District’s Bylaws. The Bylaws describe the powers and responsibilities of the District’s annual meetings, the Prudential Committee and District officers with respect to the District’s three principal functions.

The current Bylaws for Colchester Fire District No. 1 were adopted by the voters of the District at the annual meeting held in January 2006. They are a major revision of the bylaws adopted on 18 January 1982, as well as the original bylaws of 14 January 1946 and revisions of the same adopted on 16 January 1978, all of which are now superseded by the current Bylaws. Each of the previous bylaws remained in force and unchanged until it successor was adopted.
